Pakistan Citizen Portal – A Digital Solution to Bad Governance
In an effort to embrace digital tools for improving governance and addressing public grievances in a timely manner, the Government of Pakistan launched Pakistan Citizen Portal this week. It’s a one of its kind initiatives as it brings all government offices—federal and provincial—at one single platform and enables the citizens to lodge complaints to the relevant department.
The Pakistan Citizen Portal app was launched on Sunday, 28th October 2018 on Google Play, and earlier this week on iOS. The app became an instant hit and was downloaded by more than 100,000 Pakistanis in less than two days.
The app has a pretty easy registration process and a user-friendly interface. Citizens can upload picture, video or an audio file on the portal to support their complaint.
When a complaint is lodged, it reaches automatically to the relevant head of the department, who has a deadline of ten days to resolve the issue. What’s interesting is that the promotion and performance of the relevant government officials is directly linked to the feedback given on the portal by the citizens and the officials are responsible for resolving all complaints regardless of their complexity and nature.
The system is a replication of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Citizen’s Portal which was launched in 2016 and is successfully running till date. The app is made by Performance Management & Reforms Unit Government of Khyber Pahkhtunkhwa.
